Getting Started
Set up Cyrace, connect your devices, and start your first ride.
Requirements
- iPhone running iOS 17 or later
- FTMS-compatible smart trainer — Wahoo KICKR, Elite, Tacx, Zwift Hub, or any trainer that supports the Bluetooth Fitness Machine Service
- Zwift Ride controller (optional) — adds hands-free power adjustments and gear shifting from the handlebars
- BLE heart rate monitor (optional) — any standard Bluetooth HR strap or sensor
No account needed — the app works fully offline and collects zero data.
Installing the Beta
Install Cyrace via the TestFlight link you received. Once installed, open the app and you’re ready to connect your devices.
Connecting Your Devices
Open the Connect tab (antenna icon in the tab bar).
Scanning
The app scans for Bluetooth devices automatically when it launches. You can also tap “Scan for Devices” to start a manual scan. Scanning runs for up to 120 seconds.
Device Types
| Device | Required? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Trainer (FTMS) | Yes | Any FTMS-compatible smart trainer |
| Zwift Ride controller | No | Enables hands-free button controls |
| HR Monitor | No | Any standard BLE heart rate sensor |
Each device shows a colored status dot:
- Red — Disconnected
- Yellow — Scanning, connecting, or handshaking
- Green — Connected and ready
Trainer Control Handshake
Once your trainer connects, the app automatically requests control. You’ll see the status progress through:
- Requesting… — App asks the trainer for control
- Control Granted — Trainer accepted. You’re ready to ride.
If it shows Denied or Error, try disconnecting and reconnecting the trainer.
App Navigation
The app has 3 tabs across the bottom:
| Tab | Content |
|---|---|
| Ride | Main ride screen — ERG or Simulation mode |
| Connect | Device connections and status |
| Settings | All app configuration |
You can switch tabs by:
- Swiping left/right on the screen
- Tapping the tab bar icons
- Using D-pad LEFT/RIGHT on the Zwift Ride controller
Your First Ride
- Connect your trainer on the Connect tab
- Switch to the Ride tab
- You’ll start in ERG mode by default — your trainer holds a constant power target
- Tap START to begin recording
- Adjust power using the on-screen buttons or Zwift Ride controller
- When finished, tap STOP to see your ride summary
To try simulation mode instead, toggle from ERG to SIM at the bottom of the Ride tab before starting.
Troubleshooting
- Trainer won’t connect? Make sure no other app (Zwift, TrainerRoad, etc.) is connected to it. Only one app can control a BLE trainer at a time.
- Zwift Ride not found? The controller needs to be powered on and not paired with another device. If it dropped unexpectedly, restart the controller.
- Trainer not responding? Try the “Disconnect All” option and reconnect.
